Seed traits and phylogeny explain plants' geographic distribution

چکیده

Abstract. Understanding the mechanisms that shape geographic distribution of plant species is a central theme biogeography. Although seed mass, dispersal mode and phylogeny have long been suspected to affect distribution, link between sources variation in these attributes their effects on plants are poorly documented. This study aims quantify joint key traits distribution. We collected mass from 1426 representing 501 genera 122 families used 4 138 851 specimens model distributional range size. Phylogenetic generalized least-squares regression partitioning were performed estimate found size was significantly constrained by phylogeny. Seed its intraspecific also important limiting but different among with modes. Variation revealed variability, together explained 46.82 % variance not typically distributions plants, our provides direct evidence showing explaining finding underscores necessity include phylogenetic history climate-based niche models for predicting response climate change.

Geographic range velocity and its association with phylogeny and life history traits in North American woody plants

The geographic ranges of taxa change in response to environmental conditions. Yet whether rates of range movement (biotic velocities) are phylogenetically conserved is not well known. Phylogenetic conservatism of biotic velocities could reflect similarities among related lineages in climatic tolerances and dispersal-associated traits. We assess whether late Quaternary biotic velocities were phy...

Phylogeny of seed plants based on evidence from eight genes.

Relationships among the five groups of extant seed plants (cycads, Ginkgo, conifers, Gnetales, and angiosperms) remain uncertain. To explore relationships among groups of extant seed plants further and to attempt to explain the conflict among molecular data sets, we assembled a data set of four plastid (cpDNA) genes (rbcL, atpB, psaA, and psbB), three mitochondrial (mtDNA) genes (mtSSU, coxI, a...

Investigating the Biological Form and Geographic Distribution of Traditional Semiromic Rangeland Medicinal Plants

Nowadays, medicinal plants are being used to cure ailments and improve health. The vegetative form and biological shape of plants establish a clear relationship with specific environmental and human factors. The purpose of this study was to study the vegetative form, geographical distribution and therapeutic application of indigenous medicinal plants in Semirom rangelands. Medicinal plant speci...
